    Default roanoke stripers

I've had some buddies fishing this week while I've been stuck at work (Its a blessing to have a job). They are telling me the stripers are stacked up and really chomping at Weldon now. They've seen a few spawing which means we'll have another week or so of amazing fishing and it won't be quite as crowded as the keeping season is over.

Have you heard of any catches of white perch up there?

I have not. Saw some pots set down around Hamilton but didn't see anyone checking them. SO I'm guessing someone is hoping they are in that reach at least.

I fished yesterday And ended up with about 30. Most would of been keepers. We caught one on a fluke early in the morning and 2 on top water. Missed a bunch on top. Used 6 dozen shad then switched back to flukes and caught a couple more. Probably my last trip this year. Thanks for everyone's help.

I am thinking about heading back that way Sat morning. Do you think the guy at the campground will still be around with shad?
How much longer will these fish be in this part of the river?

    Thanks

Buzzbait you could google captan ponytail, for his number,he is up there and I am pretty sure that he has something to do with the live bait sales, owner or part owner. This is the first year I haven't been since 2000!!

Probably will have bait. HOWEVER you can probably hammer them jigging a fluke or grub for a lot less and less deep hooks. Still some gravid females moving upstream so probably lots of fish there thru early next week at least and good numbers compared to other rivers for a week or more Depending g on temps. If no rain then river is gonna keep Going down.

Fished yesterday and the bait sign was up at the campground. I probably got around 40 on the flyrod. None on jigs but didn't fish them much.

Fish were scattered from Little River to miles below Troublefield Gut. They spawned hard on Monday night and flows are being cut back so they were scattered over a big distance. SInce flows into Kerr (Buggs Island) are dropping flows out are being dropped too. They are scheduled to cut back to aroudn 3,500 or 3000 Fri night. Based on that I'd suggest going downriver to start.
