Goldsboro Area Suggestions

We just moved to Goldsboro, NC this past Jan 6. I am trying to find a few places to Crappie fish. I catch and release. I have a 17ft boat with 40 HP. A lot of places have restrictions on HP. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, G

There's a very nice pay pond close to you called William's Pond , I think. They give out passes from April to November. I've never fished it, but saw some pictures and a report on it, on the NC Angler board. Go there and do a search on it. If you go, let us know how you do.

I think it's like $45-50/yr, but as close as it is you'll make that up in gas money in just a couple of trips. Also, it's not that far to some of the ramps on the Neuse. I know it's very shallow around Goldsboro, but down stream the river deepens up fairly well.

Thank you Jack for your reply and suggestions. We want to try the Neuse River and I looked at the boat access ramps and I do not know which one would put us closes to the deeper water. Would you happen to know which one? The weather is sorta iffy and my Pastor and I had planned today but now we think maybe Friday morning.

I had always wanted to try the Pitckettle area but havnt made the trip down yet.

I think there was crappie caught in just about all of the Neuse Creeks this year. I think those guys have been catching shad around Pitchkettle as of recently.

If you to the NCWRC sight you can search the ramps on the Neuse within 10 and 25 miles of Goldsboro. Also, go to EZ Bait and Tackle there in Goldsboro and ask those guys. They have as much fishing tackle and gear as any of the larger chains, and all of the advice you'll need for that area.

All, we launched from the landing just below E Z B&T on Monday. Turned right out of the launch area and headed toward Little River. Flatlined jigs and minnows at 1.8 to 2.1 mph by GPS. Not a strike as we went. Just as we entered Little River we met m-u-d-d-y water, trash, jugs and bottles. They must have had a heck of a rain upstream. We turned around and headed back and the muddy water had already reached where we just came from. We were headed to the canal left of the launch area but my Pastor Buddy's kids were in the preschool lockdown next to WCC. We had to leave to pick them up when the lockdown was lifted. I think the cool snap gave the fish lock jaw as my Kerr Lake guide friend fishdoc would say. My Buddy caught one small Largemouth so my boat of 15 years continues with never a Skunk on it. I have limited experience with River fishing but I am no quitter. We will figure it out. Smiles G

GKC, find a cove or creek on that part of the river. The crappie have mostly spawned, but they're going to still be fairly shallow. Go the back of the creek or cove and work your way out. If you're longlining I'd almost guarantee you'll catch some fish.That's the most effective method to catch post spawn fish IMO.
