50 acre pond in Halifax county
I went to try my luck in a large pond located on hunt club property. I noticed some splashing and finning around in the shallows once I got out on the boat. The crappie were swarming all over a log in about 6" of water. I pulled up in my little 10ft pelican boat and dropped anchor in 2ft of water. I ended up catching a lot of crappie and the boat never seemed to bother the fish at all. I caught fish by simply dipping a jig in the water right beside the boat. I did some experimenting while there with different baits just because I could. The bait that worked best by a landslide was a 1/16 oz white jig. Bought at Walmart with the fuzzy body and feather looking tail. Most of the fish were in the 7 to 9" range. I have heard of several fish coming out of the pond in the 3 pound range. Hopefully I can hook one sooner or later.

This is common in beaver ponds in south east NC. Beaver ponds tend to get over stocked and then the otter move in and clean them out.
