Pulling chains

Which proves my point, you got more chain to drag.

Think of it like anchor line scope........drop a anchor nearly straight down generally it will not hold.......but the more scope you have on the anchor the better the hold, basically its the exact same thing with pulling chains........except we arent trying to hold the boat

Where do you attach the chains to the boat and are you long lining while pulling chajns ?

I usually attach them to the tie down rings on back of boat. No I do not pull them long lining but you could if not letting out much rope in shallow water. Usually if the wind is blowing hard enough to need to slow down long lining I'm going to the ramp.

What benefit is there to using chains vs a sock? Does it give more control since you can adjust the length of the rope or chain?

What Cray said, I used one at Washington the other day more to control the boat than to slow it down long lining.

I would say use the trolling motor to pull or push.
