Jordan Ice and Gull Report
My Father-in-laws funeral was in Raleigh today, but he was buried in Chatham County. We drove across Jordan on 64 on the way to the church. On the way home, we went by the old homeplace, which is not far from Farrington, so we came down the Farrington Road.
I was surprised at the small number of gulls and Cormorants I saw from 64. There was one place on the north side of the road towards the Parker's Creek campground that had a decent number of gulls/Cormorants after baitfish, but not the numbers I was worried would be there. At Farrington, 90% of the water on both sides of the bridge was iced over. I mean ice as far as I could see. It should melt with the warmer temp's and rain coming.
I was worried that there would be huge numbers of seagulls eating dead shad. There was some, but not what I have seen in the past. Hopefully the shad are on the bottom of the channels where it is warm enough for them to survive. There is nothing we can do but wait and see what happens to be sure, but I know all of us hope the shad survive. Unless it gets warm fast, I would say there will be a late spawn this year because of the brutal cold we have experienced.

Thanks for the report. Hope the family is holding up well after the funeral.
My plan is to hit Jordan tomorrow afternoon, rain or shine. I figure Ebenezer ramp should be fine but it will be interesting to see how much ice is remaining in the creeks.
