Caught a bunch of throwbacks, kept nine fish from 10" to 13". All caught on minnows. Even caught a little bonus yellow perch, he was released alive in the pond in back of my house. Water was high, high, high and the wind was blowing pretty good, but still caught a mess. Saw some fish suspended and right off the bottom, but all these fish were caught on the bottom.A lot of faint hearted half strikes, think they're getting cold.

Caught probably 15 throwbacks and 1 keeper in Wilson cove. It's notorious for holding small ones, but sometimes there are keepers in there. The keepers came from a couple different coves. And yeah that water was super high. Going down the river I could feel the boat kinda sliding around in all the whirlpools. The turkeys were out, too. A flock of hens actually came and roosted right where I was fishing. Any time you go to the Black let me know. They'll be spawning down here in another month.

"different cove" - Hmm; having trouble locating that one on my map.

I haven't paddled the Black yet or the South but that's a trip on my list. Is there a common kayak put in for paddling up and in? I want to check out the black water, not just fish. But I definitely would be fishing.

I think there's a Yak launch up the Black River. I do know a couple of Friday's ago, folks were either putting Yaks in or taking them out at Beatty's Bridge.

Haha! Yeah that one's not labeled. But Wilson's cove does have a lot of small ones in it. I don't know why, it's always been like that. Back in December I did catch about 20 keepers in there, but that's the exception. If you haven't paddled the Black you're really missing out. It is just beautiful. There's no industry on it so it's very, very clean. I don't know why you couldn't launch a kayak from the wildlife landing. I used to fish out of a little canoe and I always put in at Newby's landing, right under the bridge at 53 and 11. There's also Red Star landing. But you should defo make the Black River trip a priority.
