Looking to crappie fishing near Swansboro
Hello NC, the wife and I will be traveling from the Buckeye State and plan to stay in Swansboro over by Camp Lejeune. I have never been to that area before and I have no idea if there is even a crappie lake in that area so i am looking for some help from fellow crappie.com members. I plan on towing my 20' G3 down and putting a few NC slabs in the freezer so any help with information would be great.
We are looking at the end of March for this trip so I figured I better get started on finding a fishing hole now.
Thanks
Mike

We have a camper in that area, and some of the locals tell me they catch some nice slabs up the white oak River past the stella bridge, the white oak can be hard to navigate from Swansboro so I would recommend that you trailer it to the public ramp in Stella, NC and start from there and go up River. There is also some great trout and red drum fishing in the area. Maybe some of the locals will chime in and help you out, we haven't been down there but one season so far, good luck.

You will have the Trent river to your north which is good and Lake Sutton to your south. They both have good crappie and bream fishing. If you want salt you will be is some of the best sound and marsh fishing on the east coast. Learn to read channel markers and try the Speckle Trout and Red Fish. Hint...Don't use an ultralite. Morehead City about 20 miles NE is a deep water port with 50+ water. Being new to the area I suggest using a guide for a couple trips more for info than anything else. I really think you will like the New Burn area with the Neuse and Trent river for Large Mouth, Crappie and Stripper.
Welcome to North Carolina from Fayetteville and Fort Bragg.

The use of a guide is something I thought about and willing to do, so if you guys know of someone let me know. A name, web site or phone number would be great.
Thanks again

Type in "fishing guide New Burn, NC". Should give you a good start. The in-shore and sound water in NC is shallow with lots of sand bars and oyster beds. They can make for ad day with Al. hull boats. even in the rivers it is tide control.. be careful. good luck
