You can only identify them with a camera or by catchin some, everything else is a guess. I know, Iv'e fished 250 days a yr for the last thirty yrs an have marked billions of fish that I can't identify. A hook is the final analysis in most such fishin situations.

I'm actually thinking about taking a throw-net with me one day. I've got a 12' one, but not sure I am man enough to throw it like I could when I was younger. I heard that Mikefish did use a throw-net a while back under one of the bridges and they were mostly gizzard shad.
Another question: several times now I have seen something breaking water from sun-up till about 9:00. You'll see a little of their back come about an inch or so out of the water. Any idea what they are?

We saw some carp breaking yesterday afternoon as well as a few shad dimpling.
