Gave it a try Friday at Tuckertown

We loaded up and gave Tuckertown a try Friday evening. I'm new to all this crappie fishing but its something I've been wanting to get into. We put in at 49 and started trying locate some type of structure or some type of drop off or change in contour of the bottom of the lake, all of this from what I've gathered from talking to people or ready. We found a couple drop offs and a bit of bottom structure here and there. We tried fishing with minnows and a few jigs when we were able to locate something of interest on the bottom. To begin with I was using the big motor to idle around and locate structure on the bottom. by the time I would locate something and get turend around with the trolling motor several times I wouldn't be able to find what I was looking for. Any tips or advise would be greatly appreciated as to a better method of locating fish. We didn't do any good but I was expecting to set any records the first time out.

The method you used will work, troll slow, locate what you are looking for. I have markers that i throw out at the structure, then i can find and anchor where i need to be. I use two anchors, i drop one anchor at half the length of my anchor line, go past the marker to half the length of my second anchor line, drop second anchor and move to structure and tie off.

Thanks for the info, using the markers sounds like it would make things much easier as opposed to having to turning around and relocate something on the depth finder. Like I said I wasn't expecting to do a whole lot the first time I went or even the first few times but it did get a little aggravating not being able to locate something after I stopped and turned around, the makers will defiantly make it easier. Thanks

X2 on the markers. Once you mark brush on the depth finder toss the marker just over the side of the boat, then set anchors. When I'm night fishing I don't set up on top of the brush, try to get about 10ft away from the marker.

I had never thought about the markers, now that its been mentioned it makes perfect sense. Had also been curious about boat location, I had thought it would be best to get back away from the brush a few feet.
