Help with lowrance 5 hdi fish finder

Need some advice on setting up the differnt setting on it like contrast , colorline , sensitivity setting i move the setting around but wondering if i am getting the best reading or what is really happening when i do that . Also would like to know what crappie might look like on it if that is possible to tell . Seems like i see alot of stuff on there but not sure if it is fish or i am picking up alot of trash because the setting are off. THANKS for any help
