Well, as fishhound said, the fishing was poor. We took bait with us on Sunday evening and fished the canal all night and caught one fish at about 3am. My uncle was out in front of Harry's anchored up and asleep when we found them. When the reeled their lines in to leave they had a fish on . . . the only one of the night. Both were about 5 lbs. They had run trot lines and we got 4 off of those. 4 off of 50+ hooks.

We caught plenty of perch for Monday night and started in the timber and then moved to the canal. Caught one at about midnight, and then 3 more from 5-6 am. Didn't drift any cause our pastor and his boys came to fish with us that night and he had to get on back. My uncle caught 6 through the night up in the trees and had 0 on the trot lines.

Tuesday afternoon we were able to catch plenty of perch and were able to get some shad too. We started up in the woods and picked up 2 and then moved to the canal about midnight and caught 3 more through the night. Broke loose and drifted the canal picking up 5 more for 11 total. All of ours were in the 8-15+ lbs. range. My uncle anchored in the canal about midnight and stayed in one spot for the night. At about 5am he caught the only fish of the night for him. A 45 lber.

Everyone we talked to said the fishing had been poor for the past little bit. I believe if we had stayed a couple more days we could have got on 'em better, but had to come on home. If anyone is heading down there make sure you have a wide assortment of baits. The shad were the key for us.

Also saw the biggest Mayfly hatch of my life. They were EVERYWHERE Tuesday night and when we got to shore on Wednesday morning they were all over the trailers, cars, and everything.
