Oak Hollow Lake on Sunday
I love to fish and like trying different lakes for crappie. It's been years since I fished Oak Hollow, so I decided to try it again this morning. I figured the water temp should be getting warm enough to entice a shallow bite so I retied all my lines for shallow free lining. I noticed the wind building as soon as I left the house so I knew it wasn't going to be easy. After paying the $7 launch fee I began looking for slabs. The first 12-15 ft coves marked nothing. By now the lake was getting choppy and I had to retreat to more protected areas if I was going to have a chance. I finally found a super protected cove but the water was much shallower than I usually fish. The water temps had eased to 62 so I set a double jig cork rig for shallow running and started pulling. Fish after fish, sometimes 3 at a time as I skimmed through the 3-5 ft water. These little tater chips look like alien crappies with little bodies and big eyes! Throw back 6-8 and then occasionally I managed a keeper. I ended up with 18 keepers, 1 catfish, 1 largemouth, 1 carp, and a boat load of tater chips. All in all a fun trip that would be great for kids who need lots of action.
