    Default Suggestions for Thursday

    All,
I am planning on taking my boy, Fisher, fishing on Thursday for his 4th birthday! This is all he has asked for since we went Shad Fishing last year on his birthday and he was able to reel in some Shad on the Neuse river.
I have a 14' doublewide jon with a 25hp Johnson. I usually fish Sharon Harris, Eno River, Neuse River, but I am open to suggestions to allow him the best possible chance at getting a hold of some that will give him a pull on his zebco 33.
Thursday looks like 44 degrees with 12mph winds... just a little too stiff for Sharon Harris. The Neuse river is still up a bit much for my liking for safety reasons, I am sure that the shad are there. So if the Eno doesn't look too bad then that may be my best option. Anyone else have an idea where to get into some fish?
    Thanks, Fishengineer

Gosh, I can't believe I would pretend to be a fishing advisor, but, you might consider Lake Wheeler. I would take some some fat juicy worms and put Fisher up front with his gob o' worms. Of course, the worms are backup. I have a great picture of my fifteen year old catching his first bluegill on that lake about ten or eleven years ago. Later that day, he was playing with the fish in the livewell and went head- first into the well with his sandals kicking in the air. Funniest thing i ever saw. But, mom didn't like me laughing. I would suggest Wheeler because of the ability to get out of the wind. Remember, all Fisher needs to catch ( to have a wonderful time) is your attention!

Engineer. I drive over the Neuse every day, I can tell you they turned the dam down and the river is lower now.

I went over to Cox Mill Boat Landing near Rosewood / Goldsboro area and caught two on Monday morning. Great morning till the temp dropped and it started raining. Couldn't get Fisher out of Preschool but if the river stays low we may try there on Thursday for a little while in the jon boat. Thanks, Fishengineer

We ended up going to the River.... Got out and looked at it and Fisher said "hey Daddy, can we go swimming?". I laughed. He said "not here. At the swim center ( SRAC) in Smithfield." I told him that was a great idea! We played for a couple hours, just the two of us. Then hit McD's and headed back home. On the way home he said that we are going to have to reschedule the fishing trip. I think he had a great time. More father son days are definitely needed, for both of us! I had a ball!

Sounds like fun. They grow up fast. At least my 12 and 15 year old love to fish.
