I had the opportunity to do something I've been wanting to do for several years . . . fish the Chesapeake Bay for big stripers. I got to fish with Wayne from Slabbs Guide Service out of Buggs Island. We went up on Tuesday evening to fish on Wednesday hoping that the weather reports would hold true. It's not often you plan a one day trip a few weeks ahead of time and hit the weather perfectly, but the Lord blessed us with an absolutely beautiful day. It was a little snotty on the way out, but settled down after an hour or so to be awesome. We drifted live eels on planer boards and Ready Rig Bobbers, and ended up catching 7, loosing 2, and having 2 short strikes. We had one 29 incher and all the others were right at or over 40 inches. I got the pleasure of catching the largest fish for a citation at 42.5 pounds and 44 inches long. We had one longer, but was about 8 pounds lighter. If you are interested in fishing and learning to fish Buggs Island for stripers I would highly recommend calling Slabs Guide Service and booking a trip. You can get in contact with him through Bobcat's Bait and Tackle up at Buggs Island. Here a few pics.
