Default kerr scott report and advise needed

I went to Kerr Scott Yesterday 5/9. the wind was high in the morning, but could get into coves and cut it way down. Water temp was 68* and we marked a ton of fish 20' deep around cover. I have a couple questions for you guys. #1, i read were alot of you guys use a double jig set up for longline trolling. Do you just tie the high jig onto the line and then another at the end? About how far apart? 18"? and #2 If the fish are deep, and i want to troll deep, whats the best way to do so? Still longline and use a heavier jig and slow down? But i assume you want to keep your normal speed, so........? Or do you titeline at that point and use your normal longline speed? I dunno......I used a single 1/4oz jig as an expierement yesterday while longlinin, and best i could tell, at the speed that I usually catch them, that jig was only runnin about 7 feet (thats where i was bumpin bottom). So what say ye fellas? any advise? This is my first year trolling, and have learned alot, but need more. Thanks.... oh......and all we caught were a couple of short spotted bass and some blue gill (1/8th oz jig, blue/black/chart curly)

I thought there was a chart somewhere that gave you an idea of how deep you are running based on how much line is out and the weight of your jigs. (as well as speed), but I can't find it..

I've only longlined a couple times but to me its the same kinda though as if you are tightlining, and that is to let the fish tell you how fast to go....

I use 3/4 to 1 ounce weights to tightline out the front of my boat. I longline out the back and use two jigs per line. You can use the Capps and Coleman type rig or one that is much simpler. We are experimenting with a 1/16 jig on the bottom and about 18" up the line, having a 2-3" loop and putting a jig there.

    limit,
Just for my knowledge, are you saying you titeline and longline at the same time and at the same speed? one off the front and one off the rear?......... and what kind of speeds do you troll at? I've been somewhere around 2 - 2.5 MPH and have done well at Tuckertown using that speed and titeline with 1/32 or 1/16 oz single jigs. Thanks

to answer your first question, yes, just tie a loop knot and attach the jig, and 18" is a good rule of thumb. #2 you need to switch to tightlineing and all do is tie 2 jigs 18" apart and another 18" down tie a 3/4- 1-1/2oz bank sinker, this lets you drop your jigs almost straight down and you can go at a normal speed .7-.9mph.
When in doubt, set the hook.

I'm strictly a tightliner & use a 1oz egg sinker, 4lb test & 1 jig per rod. Generally I troll at .7 mph to 1.1 mph. But.... On our spring trip to High Rock, my friend prefers longlining, so I set up 8 rods, tightlining in front & 8 rods, longlining out the back. We both had great success with each method.

    Pepsi,
Long lining is done off the rear of the boat, with just a single jig or (from what i just learned) two jigs, one cast length and troll....... this will keep you higher in the water column. titelining is done with a different type of setup. for this, you start with a jig tied onto your line with a drop loop (2-3") and 18" or so below that tie another loop (again 2-3" long) and then 18" below that, end your rig with a 1 oz. sinker... and troll away. i'm not sure on speeds.... i'll give the answer most give... let the fish tell you how fast to go........ yeah... well most of the time then i can tell you how fast NOT to go..... ;-) what i've found lately is longline at 2 - 2.5 mph has been working for me....... also on the titelining, you can substitue the jig for a #2 long shank hook, with a jig body and a minnow....... or any combo...... not saying thats right, just what i've been learning so far....
