I think there are pretty good ways to do it from computer if your files are labeled correctly. I load some of mine by hand, tho....If you open a lakemaster or navionics on your unit, then activate the cursor and put the cursor on the lat/long numbers. Then just click mark on unit. Might even be able to do it without the GPS card, because the cursor will show lat/long regardless of mapping, I think

If you have the coordinates you can type them directly into the DF. It is stored on the DF software, not the mapping card(SD). I am not where I can get to my DF at present, but you can maneuver to the waypoints menu and there is a selection that lets you input the coordinates. You can also name the waypoint whatever you wish.

Not directly, but HB had an online mapping feature on their website where you could transfer waypoints to and from the DF via and SD card. I switched over to a Lowrance HDS so I have not used the HB website in a while.

I think I know which screen you are referring to....but I did not know I could type into that area...thought it was "read only"

I sit in my boat in the garage and wait to get GPS signal.
I then move the cursor to the point on the map and press the mark button.
Gotta zoom in to get the fine details.
Takes a while, but I couldn't get the software to work right for me on the computer and my old 797 chip wouldn't download into my 1199.

it sounds like this may be above my skill level. I found the spots on google earth and I am familiar with the area so I think I will just let the side scan do what it is meant to do, otherwise I may do something to my DF that I wish I wouldn't have. Thanks

Not hard at all, it's just getting over the initial intimidation factor....go ahead and dive into the deep end even tho you don't know how to swim.

All the info you need is located in the owner's manual and that can be found online. To create a waypoint by entering coordinates manually: Turn on unit (not sure if you need GPS lock or not). Press menu key twice, then right arrow to NAV tab. Cursor down to WAYPOINTS. If the waypoints menu doesn't open up when highlighted, just hit the right arrow button. Highlight CREATE and press right. This will open a menu to create a waypoint and you will use the cursor/arrow button to put the coordinates in that you want (here I think you will have to have unit turned on with a GPS position, just to give the unit a starting place). You can give these waypoints an icon you will recognize for when you are on the water. Make sure you save before you exit. Also don't forget to e-mail those coords to me!!

Using the HumminbirdPC software is actually quite easy.

Step 1: Insert SSD (if you have one from FF)
    Step 2: Open HumminBirdPC

You will see a PC and an SD card on the screen. If you have imported waypoints to PC before then your .GPX file will show up when you click on PC. If not click the BLUE ARROW on SD card and download ur current card to your PC. Once copied you can click on "Waypoints" and all your spots will show up. You can do a lot of cool things here like change the icon, toggle viability when viewed on graph or by favorite, RENAME them so they make sense. Once you have some waypoints you can right click on "Waypoints" and choose "View in Google Earth" and it will place all your spots on the map

Step3: Right click on "Waypoints" and click "New Waypoint" Once created you can edit latitude and longitude of the spot with the correct info.

Step4: Repeat until all waypoints are created.
Step5: Click on GREEN ARROW to upload you new .GPX file to SD card.

That's it! You can get more complicated and sort your waypoints into "Groups" so that the group can be toggled on and off. Before i learned Smithville real well i toggled my brush piles to off so i could see my tracks and hazards i created while running.
