    Default My Fishing Hero/ mentor

When I was growing up My Aunt was my fishing instructer/partner and she always knew where, when, and how to catch the big slabs. We mainly fished kansas lakes cause thats where she lived but I didnt care as long as I was fishing. Crappie fishing has become so technical with so many different styles and types of rods, reels and thousands of different baits. Back then things seemed to be so basic, at least compared to now. My aunt lived in Mound City Kansas and everytime I would come down to fish she would have me stop at the bait shop here in town and get like 18 dozen shinners in air bags to put in her bait tank. She would always be like dont bring me none of those little minnows either bring all large. We would almost always catch huge crappie, 10 in fish werent big enough, those were thrown back, man I miss those days. No matter what lake, strip pit, or creek we fished in it seemed like she had the magic touch to catch the largest crappie around. We would fish morning noon and night. Now no one I know of uses large minnows or lures for crappie, I myself have fallen into the whole thing of presenting small baits for crappie and finesse this finesse that. For 2013 I think I am going to go back to useing bigger baits like my Aunt did. Sorry for the long story but I was just reflecting back on my fishing hero. I sure miss her too! Any body else have a fishing hero/ mentor? .

I too have my aunt to blame for my fishing addiction. She living in Ft. Smith, AR. I'd take a Grey Hound bus every summer from Little Rock to fish with her and Uncle Johnny for three weeks. Great memories.

I have clients in Mound City, KS, btw.
The best way to get to where you want to be in the future is to act like you are there TODAY.

My Dad also. When my brother and I were small he would take us fishing on a creek bank. He would take a piece of rope and tie me on one end, wrap it around a tree and tie the other end to my brother, He said he figured that way he would only have one of us in the water at one time.
