Default Purchasing a Yamaha (115) on pontoon...looking for service

First pontoon and FIRST 4 stroke. Wondering where you guys inMissouri go to for service on your Yamaha's? Will ask the same thing on the Oklahoma and KS boards. Would rather hear from you people as to who would be reputable...will have to travel some either way I go so that really isn't to much of a factor. Live in SE KS.

Been in 1 boat (35 yrs of fishing) that had a 4 stroke, worked ok...quiet for sure...really looking forward to seeing how it performs especially with the pontoon.

Do any of you guys do your own maintenance? Looks like I might need to get some software and cord to connect the engine interface with a laptop...any thoughts or directions on that?

    thanks

My 115 Yamy came out of hurricane katrina. After a rectifier, a new tilt motor and a new injector she's been tops in my book.
Recently had to put a new solenoid for the tilt on it. Only downside to yamaha is there aren't a lot of aftermarket parts so they get premium on failed components.
Mines a 2003 and I haven't had a bad enough issue to get something to interface with the OBD. Not even sure where the hook up is on it.
Hopefully I'll never have to use it.
That first year i took my motor to Hydrotech in Nixa. They did a fine job for me.

Thanks for replying Kit...from what your saying and other responses sounds like the Yamaha 4 stroke yearly maintenance can be a do it yourself project.

Parts...marine parts...they all are proud of them!!

Easy peasy lemon squeezy on the maintenance. Lower unit oil is the same as all other units. Changing the motor oil is a breeze. Plug is on the back inside the rubber flange. It helps to have someone hold the pan while the other loosens the plug.

I don't do this yearly, but changing the impeller was pretty easy with two people too. Four bolts, drop the unit a little to get access to the linkage, unhook the linkage pull the impeller and use the old components to put on the new components. Toughest part was getting the splines aligned. Just have to turn the prop until they it slides in.

I'm at the 10 year mark next year so I'll have to replace the timing belts up top. Down side of having a four stroke. Wish they would use timing chains.
