Default Attention New Missouri Boat Owners Or Someone Who Has Just Purchased A Used Boat!

I Just Had Another One Of Those Coast Guard Inspections. Figure Anything I Can Do To Keep Those Water Bears Happy I Better Do. We Had One Last Year And The Sticker Was Taken Off The Boat When Lowes Had To Repaint The Boat. I Was Told By The Inspector Last Year And Again This Year That I Was Supposed To Have On Board With My Paper Work A Missouri Watercraft Registration Certificate This Is About A 3" X 5" Green Card. The Inspector Last Year Told Me That The Missouri Department Of Revenue Would Mail Me One. Well We Didn't Think Anymore About It Figured We Would Get One Sometime. As Long As We Had The Receipts For Everything Else We Were Legal. Well The Inspector This Year Said You Should Have One Of These Green 3" X 5" Green Card Missouri Watercraft Registration Certificates. He Even Pulled Out The Handbook Of Missouri Boating Laws And Responsibilities Printed By The Missouri Water Patrol. He Showed Me On Page 28 What It Looked Like. "certificate Must Be On Board And Available For Inspection By An Enforcement Officer Whenever The Vessel Is Operated."

Well After Tearing The House Apart Looking For It Just In Case We Had Gotten It In The Mail And Had Put It In The Wrong Pile. I Asked Wife To Get On The Phone And Call The Department Of Revenue In Jefferson City And Ask About Getting One. We Figured That Since Our Great Governor Has Changed All Operating Agents For The Local License Offices We Would Just Go To The Head Office. Well Wife Got On The Phone This Morning With Them And They Said To Her Don't Worry You Can Just Go To Any Local Office And Have One Printed Up. No Problem What So Ever.

Well Nothing Against Any State Workers But Some Will Just Tell You Anything To Get You Off The Phone So They Can Get Back To Playing Solitaire Or What Ever They Do. And After Reading This Water Patrol Regulations Book The Way I Understood It Was That The Department Of Revenue Had To Mail This Certificate To Us.

Last Thing I Want Is A Ticket From Some Smokie On The Water! I Have Enough Problems With Their Cousins On Land!

So I Called The Missouri Water Patrol Headquarters In Jefferson City. Talked With A Nice Officer Who Told Me Not To Worry About It! Because As Of Early Last Year The State Of Missouri Quit Sending Them Out! And They Have Not Printed Up Any New Missouri Boating Regulations Handbooks! So The Information In The Current 2008 Editions Of The Handbooks Is Incorrect! I Told The Nice Officer That Someone Needed To Inform Those People Over At The Department Of Revenue Because They Sure Didn't Know Anything About It! He Acted Like That My Comments Kind Of Upset Him.

Thank you, Dan. Mine is on board all the time. I even asked the Missouri Patrol for an inspection. Very nice man did it in about 5 minutes.

This info may be dated but last I knew there were three state operated MDOR offices, k.c., st. louis, and springfield and the rest were agent operated fee locations. The opinions and attitudes will vary greatly from location to location. If you find one staffed with experienced, knowledgeable people with good attitudes its a pleasure, if not then it will get my dander up quicker than anything. I'll put in a plug for the one in Clinton, the folks here are wonderful. You can use any office in the state by the way, don't have to use the one closest to you.

ALL THE LOCATIONS IN SPRINGFIELD HAVE NOW BEEN BID OUT AND ARE OPERATED BY AGENTS THERE ARE NO STATE RUN OFFICES. FACT IS ONLY ONE OFFICE IS RUN BY A TRUE AGENT THE OTHER LOCATIONS ARE BEING RUN BY NON PROFIT GROUPS.

AND IF YOUR GOING TO PUT A YELL OUT FOR CLINTON, I HAVE TO PUT A YELL OUT FOR THE NICE PEOPLE IN THE HERMITAGE OFFICE! ONE THING ABOUT IT IF THEY DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER THEY WILL NOT REST UNTIL THEY GET YOU A ANSWER. OH AND THE HERMITAGE OFFICE IS RUN BY MISSOURI FARM BUREAU.

I TRY TO NEVER EVER USE A OFFICE HERE IN SPRINGFIELD. I HAVE HAD ALOT BETTER LUCK AND BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE RURAL OFFICES BOLIVAR, BUFFALO OR HERMITAGE. WE USED THE OFFICE IN NIXA WHEN WE PURCHASED THE BOAT AND I HAVE BEEN BACK IN THERE ONCE SINCE THEN. THE PEOPLE IN THAT OFFICE HAVE A ATTITUDE THAT STINKS!

I should say I've never kept it in the boat, and they've never asked for it when I got stopped.
