Default Lowrance Insight HD Maps VS Insight Maps

I received my HD map card today so I tested it on both of my HDS units. It works on either Insight or Basemap. As I'm sure you know the basemap mapping sucks. The Insight shows good enough detail, but for the same money you can get the Lake Insight HD card. I'm hoping this will help anyone considering an Insight unit over a Basemap. If I had it to do again, I'd have 2 basemap units and 2 Insight HD cards.

This is the Built in insight map, you'll notice the contours on both.

Now for the Insight HD. (the dotted blue line is the train tracks)

With the built in insight map, you get some shaded relief but you have to be zoomed out so far that it's not even useful. The insight HD will zoom in to 100FT with shaded relief.

I think the shading really adds to the ease of understanding. I'm guessing the blue and teal lines are tracks that the unit has saved from you running back and forth?

looks good, I put the new chip in the 7 and moved it to the console and moved the 8 up front, easy to see with these old eyes, and the HD card is pretty neat for sure

It's also important to note that the Insight HD card has additional usable storage to the tune of 2-4GB. So you can save recordings, snapshots, waypoints, tracks and trails to it, just as you would any other card. So even if you have an HDS 5 or 7 with one card reader, you don't lose functionality by adding this card.
