Default What is going on here Cardinals fans?

Ok I have put up with this for a couple of days now! TIME FOR OLD DW TO STIR THE POT! All these so called Cardinal baseball fans on CDC and ain't been no thread yet making comments on the hiring of Mike Matheny as the new manager!

I for one would have like to have seen the Cardinals hire someone with more of a track record.

The hiring of Matheny has been my prediction and wish for the past couple of years and i think he will make one hell of a manager, every winning manager has to start somewhere and with his knowledge of the game, the respect the players and orginazation and his Cardinal bloodline i don't think they could of made a better choice.

Amen brother, the cardinals won't be able to sign anyone else if they sign Pujols. Albert can't win 100 games by himself and his good years are past him. I would sign him for three years and that its. Anyone that signs him for ten is going to be spending a big chunk of money on his later years and we see how he gets hurt every year.

I'm really happy for Matheny. He is such a good person. I've been fortunate to have dealings with him, and you can't ask for a better individual. He has talked about how he prepares himself for the game and how he prepares his pitcher for the game whenever he played, if he can translate that to a whole team, he should do just fine. My only concern is dealing with the front office. I feel "on the field" will be very good.

Anytime you deal with a front office you can get into trouble. Just like any business sometimes half the time the person in the front office running the business don't really have any idea what goes on out back where the real money is made!

I am with Bugman. Great choice for the Cards. Who better than a former Cardinal to lead them now. He should get the respect of players on the team. He is a very intelligent man and really knows the game. It is like any other leadership position. If he surronds himself with great people he will be successful. As far as Albert. He is one of if not the best player in baseball but it is a game played with 9 players not one. Spend the cash on a couple more great arms for the bullpen and lets make another great run in 2012.

I like the hire as well. I think he will be a great fit. Plus, is we sign Albert and Waino is healthy I could manage the team and win 75-80 games. I think Matheny has a lot to work with and some true professional ball players as veterens that just need to go play baseball.

I don't think Albert will require $30million. I think we can sign him for $24-28 million and while I agree with the fact that is a lot of money I think we owe him to a degree. If you payed him $26.5 million for the next 10 years and averaged that out with what we have paid him the first 11 years I think you could make a case he was worth every penny over a 20 year career and the cardinals got by pretty cheap with one of the best the game has ever seen. I think this is one area you can't let the numbers of compairing home runs and RBI fool you. If we plug in craig and he does well we still arn't the team we are with Albert. IMO he is a true game changer especially as to how you pitch to those around him. I also agree he is not bigger than the game or cardinals baseball, but it would kill me to see him in another uniform.
