    Default Tony La Russa retires

Cardinals had a big press conference this morning to announce the retirement. TLR said he made the decision back in August no matter how the rest of the season went. He said it was time to do something else.

Love him or hate him he had a great run with the cards. He and Albert worked together for 11 seasons and made the play offs 7 times, with 3 national leauge championships and 2 world series titles. Yes, he has had a lot of good players to work with, but that is an awesome run.

I think they will hire Oquendo.

gonna miss him. I think he is the best in baseball right now, one of the very best all time managers, too.

Truly, a loss for the Cards. I really hope they get a replacement worthy of the organization and what he has built there. My vote would not be a popular one, but I would vote for Bobby Valentine. ALMOST as knowledgeable as Tony, and a good baseball man.

Not a bad choice Jack, plus he understands National League play.

I do think whoever they pick should have National league experience. LOTS more to the game in the N.L. rather than just sending up nine hitters. Just ask Ron WashingtonRofl

Jack I agree with you that he is a good baseball man but having to listen to him talk on ESPN sunday night baseball this year makes him seem like a moron. I don't think he is, I just think he was out of place trying to do that job.
