It was a long night. Place we ended was were we wanted to start but someone else was there so we went up a creek. About half way up we ran into (literaly) a big one, about 10'. The thing was guarding a bunch of fresh borns and swam to us an hit the boat. I got to pick up one of the babies, it was neat! Saw lots of small gators 4'-6'. When we came back out into the river, around 1 a.m. we saw some big ones on the other side of the river. We saw one headed down river and caught up with him. I aimed the lazer light on him and released the safety and pulled the trigger. Nothing! When I released the safety I actually put the safety on. By that time the gator went under. We sat a while (5 min or so) and spotted a gator headed down river again (I think it was the same gator). I aimed the lazer pulled the trigger and hit him in the neck. We started pulling him up and he came up about 15 feet from us and was surrounded by blood (good hit). We worked a while and got him to the surface and I hit him with the harpoon. Now he was ours. He tired out and surfaced then we shot him in the back of the head. I taped his mouth closed and we drug him in the boat. The guide then severed the backbone. It was a great adventure. I was hoping he would be bigger but I did fulfill a dream. Of the 160 lbs I should get about 30 lbs of meat. We left the guides house at 4:30 p.m., shot the gator at 2:10 a.m. and I got back in Charleston at 6 in the morning. Long night. Headed home tomorrow after I get the meat from the processor. 5 to 9 months for the taxidermy.
