    Default Butler vs MSU

Got to watch Butler play Florida today. Butler pulled it out again and are now headed to the final four of the Big Dance. Congrats to them.

Was reading and participating in the thread the other day about Mike Anderson going to Arkansas which did happen afterall and watching that game got me thinking again today.

I was curious as to what kind of student population Butler had. Looked it up and it is around 4,500 students yearly. So here in Springfield MSU (Missouri State University) has a average student population of around 19,000.

Many consider Butler to be a Mid Major University which is what I would consider MSU. So here we have Butler with about a 1/4 of the student population as MSU and we can't even get into the NCAA tournament let alone win a game in it. I just don't understand it. Every year when the college season starts I always hope that maybe this will be the year to get excited about a local team doing well during the regular season and moving on to the the Big Dance. But almost year after year it is a let down. I can't remember how long it has been since Alford was here and we made it to the sweet 16 but it has been a long time.

I think it would be great to be in a college town where you had a team to really get behind and and be rewarded with some big wins and some excellent althletes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'm not going to support MSU because they can't make it to the Big One, but really wish they could do better. I will continue to support them, win or loose.

Wonder how MSU would do playing Butler? Will probably not ever know. I do believe they both have stand up coaches leading these young men. So where's the big difference in the teams ability to advance in post season play?

HHHHmmmmm, I wonder how the Crappie fishing is Indiana?

Maybe it all has something to do with the Hoosiers? :D

Have a great recruiting year and ride the wave and hope you can start attracting talented kids. Gonzaga is a prime example. Indiana State rode a wave for a while when Bird and them were there too. Over time, it fizzles unless you keep making the tournament.

I saw that on the news as well (shocked I was still awake) Good luck to him he is a fine coach. I found it funny though that they started off the report with ragging on Bill Self; " Bill Self is now 1-6 in elite eight games" Wonder if anyone has a clue how tough it is to GET to the elite eight. Personally, I would not care if he was 0-10; it's a tremendous accomplishment to get that far year after year. Not a KU fan but a great team and great run year after yearThumbs Up

Chris, that has haunted SMS, SMSU, and MSU fans, including myself, since Charlie Spoonhour and the 70's. It's the plague of a mid major, am surprised Butler's coach is still on. Now loosing MU's coach to Arkansas though is akin to having your favorite fishing buddy say he'd rather fish from the bank with doughballs. :D (obviously i have friends, or former friends, in razorback land)
