Default Need help Truman Lake- newbie

New to the forum, already learned alot.Everyone seems so helpful. My son and myself will be heading to KC for spring break. Visiting family. We plan on fishing Smithville but also Truman.Targeting crappie. Never been on that lake. Can any of you point me in the right direction. I don't want your spots just general area and depths, and where to launch and what direction to go. We will be in the areaApril 4th - 9th. Might even be interested in guide. Do you'll think I would need one. Any help would be appreciated.

I would put in at Bucksaw, just south east of Clinton Missouri. You can find Bucksaw Marina online line and they have guides but you prob. won't need one. If the weather warms back up they should be getting close to the bank by then and about any pebble rock bank should have crappie. You can PM me when you get ready to come this way and I will give you a report, might even show you a few spots while you are here.
Where do you live in Kentucky, I have a Aunt that lives in Elkton went over there last year for deer season, can't believe all those huge pine trees, a lot different from where I live in Missouri.

Like Bigby said when it gets closer let us know. Someone will be on the water would show you around Truman to put you on some fish. It has been unreal so far this year even with the crazy weather. So by then it should be on fire if the weather holds up for a few days before. Let us know and we wil try and help out and save you a guide fee. But if you want to fish with one of the best on Truman lake Richard Bowling is the General Manager of Bucksaw resort and the best crappie guide on the lake. That is a popular time of year so if wanting to book a trip I would call now. Just google Bucksaw marina and resort and see what all they have to offer. They are even adding more kicthenettes on the water. Pretty cool. Just pull your boat up to a slip right outside you door.

Thanks for the help, everyone is so helpful. My son is 16, I don't know how many of these spring break trips we will still have.We used to split each one with a spring turkey hunt. He is too old for those now. We are concentrating on fishing. I try to make the most of each one. I live in Richmond KY ( 20 mile south of Lexington). I grew up in Liberty Mo, haven't lived there for 30 years. I have been trying to find Gladden Dye in Clinton Mo. He was my dad's best friend growing up. He supposedly used to guide on the Truman?

I did a search and found him on whitepages.com. I would post the info here but it really wouldn't be appropriate.

If you go with a guide, give Richard a try. He's a great guy and runs a tight-ship at the Marina. Here's a tid-bit about him.......
