Default Another #1 team for Auburn!!

Auburn’s Bass Sports Club ranks number one in nation11:03 AM, December 15, 2010
AUBURN - Auburn University's Bass Sports Club is tied for the nation's top spot among collegiate fishing teams in FLW Outdoors Magazine's January 2011 issue. The editors rank Auburn in a tie with the University of Florida for number one among its list of top 25 schools.

"This is a very nice honor for the club," Auburn advisor Jann Swaim said. "We have a very good group of dedicated students and we hope to maintain a high ranking throughout the year. The FLW tournaments provide great experiences for them."

The magazine uses a points system derived from top-five finishes in National Guard FLW College Fishing events over a two-season span, giving more points for high finishes in regional and national championships. Auburn and Florida each earned 61 points in the inaugural ranking in the January issue; the rankings will be updated each month.

Auburn's club, which has 30 members, sends three, two-person teams to tournaments. Recent graduates Shaye Baker and Dennis Parker were named to the 2010 National Guard FLW College Fishing All-American Team this fall.

"Our goals are to represent Auburn to the highest standard and to have pride in being a part of Auburn," Swaim said.

More information is available on the Bass Sports Club website at Auburn University - Sub Page Template or by contacting Swaim at [email protected].

Hmm, didn't know about the equestrian team. In basketball, we are kind of pathetic! But my other alma mater is #1!

Basketball? They still play that sport in this country?

Of course they do!! Duke, my undergrad alma mater, won the NCAA championship last year in basketball and now Auburn will win the BCS!

I must note that ACC basketball got its start in the 1950's when Frank McGuire went to UNC and brought 5 NYC kids with him. They went on to win the NCAA's one year. Four of his players were Catholic and one was Jewish. Some wag once described a UNC basketball game as "All these Baptists and Methodists standing up and cheering while 4 Catholics chase a Jew upcourt."

Your bit of humor for the day!

Yeah it would be nice. When I was a grad student at Auburn some of my profs liked to give me grief about my habit. One prof said to me " You know Pete, you have done pretty well for someone who has that much used fishing tackle."

When I was a grad student I had an inflatable boat that I used to fish out of. BTW, that boat was great - I could go anywhere and fish with it. It was an Avon - the British version of the Zodiac. Anyway, my boss used to refer to it as the "Condom Craft". He was just jealous!
