Had a great time hunting in Kansas the last 5 days and learned a few things. Badgers are some mean critters, if you happen to set up close to a badger hole be prepared for a fight. I had one charge me as I was enjoying watching two doe's, this thing came at me like a charging bull and it caught me so off guard I almost wet myself jumping up and getting my rifle on it just as it dove in it's hole no more then 10 feet from me. After I got my heart back in my chest and collected my scattered call, rattling horns, and binoculars from all over the place I settled back in and this thing poked it's head back out of it's hole and started hissing at me. I had my rifle on it and decided if that thing came out of it's hole again I was sending it to his maker. A few minutes passed and it started growling so I threw a dirt clod at it's hole and he got really loud and mad I thought this is it, it is me or him and I had a rifle. He never did come back out and I could not calm down enough to continue hunting from that spot so I moved and gave him his space. Lesson learned do not set up close to a badger hole.

Are you sure those are not badger rubs? I heard they use them for bait.![]()
The only Bager I ever seen was just north of Windsor about twenty years ago, it was going across a field so I ran up to to it to check it out and it turned and showed me his teeth and that's all I wanted of that. Pretty cool to see one in the wild.
Don't think i'd want to tangle with one of the hateful critters......

A friend's brother set up 20 yds. from a Beaver Dam. A beaver sauntered up to him and stopped right at his feet. He poked it with the business end of his rifle and told it to get outta here and the beaver lerched at bit a hole through the heel of his leather boot. He shook it off and killed it. Send the head to Columbia to check for rabies. True Story but there are some punch lines.
You get nothin's but trouble if you poke a strange beaver with your gun.

I have seen pictures of some huge rubs from Kansas which is the land of giants. Oh and I would have been gone the first time the ole badger wanted to play.
Dayum, no thanks. Believe I'd have had to shoot him the first step he took in my direction.
We do not want the gift of a fish; neither do we expect a lesson on fishing; what we direly need is a chance to fish
what about a deer did you kill one or does human urin scent scare them away
