I can't make this stuff up! I found this in the KC Star!
Two Kansas City police officers who thought they were being shot at from inside a van returned fire Thursday night.
Only later did police realize that the van was actually backfiring and the man inside was not armed. He was not injured by the shots fired by police.
Windows of the police car were apparently shot out by the officers as they exited the patrol car.
The officers were dispatched on a report of shots being fired from a white van just before 6 p.m. Thursday on Gregory Boulevard near Interstate 435.
When the officers got to the area they saw a white van parked on Gregory and pulled up near it. As they were getting out of the patrol car they heard the backfiring and fired their weapons. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
I SURE HOPE THESE OFFICERS ARE NOT GOING DEER HUNTING IN THE MORNING!![]()
I'm just GLAD theyre in a different state than I am.:o
And they shot the windows out of the police cruiser that they were in???? What the heck were they aiming at?????
That's some funny stuff right there.

You know where you or I would be sitting right now if we pulled such a stupid stunt-thank GOD no child got hit in a car seat or someone else.Stupid-stupid-stupid!!!
I got a good laugh but thank goodness nobody got hurt.
Bob I'm not sure thats funny stuff . Kind of scary if you think about it . If your in K.C. keep you car in good shape you sure don't want it backfire! (LOL)
May all your live wells be full.Dave
Fortunately there aren't reports filed of my day-to-day bonehead moves and that my errors of judgment aren't front page headlines. Thankfully no one was hurt. But this could cost an officer and his family his career or at least result in a major step backwards. Is it deserved? Maybe so but to me what we "should" be concerned about is the circumstances that places law enforcement officers on such a knife's edge and has them so jumpy. I'd like any of us here that can be objective to imagine how edgy we'd be if our duty required us to enter an area of "shots fired". Ride with any officer for several days and see how many difficult situations they are placed in, glad we're all so damned perfect.
wasn't going to comment on this ,,,,,and still am not.
Kazu..I get your point, and don't want to get too political/moral.Officer should be held to a higer standard..they make the choice to choose a job where they literally hold someones life in their hand.
I wasn't there, but to just fire away at a noise without identifying a target is as bad as a deer hunter shooting at a noise.
