I know you're not supposed to do this but take a small hammer and peck on the trim motor it could just be bound up a bit,we had one that done that from time to time and it worked for a while till we finally had to get it rebuilt, when you hit the trim switch do you hear a click?

There is two relays on the motor under the cowl one runs the up and one runs the down. Make sure they are clicking when you hit the trim button. If the trim unit trys to go up but not down swap the relays around and see if it works the other way.If so just change out the relay if not check power from switch to relays.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

Mine did the same thing! It was actually the tilt trim button on the front of the boat. I must have stepped on it before and broke or cracked it because when it would rain it would fill up with water and complete the circuit and raise the motor! It run my battery dead twice before I figure the problem out.

Talked to a guy I know that is a mechanic and he said the tilt has fuses and relays. If the tilt motor is making noise and still running he said they get stuck in the up position quite often and have a manual release valve. If you want his number pm me he said he would try to help you out.

2.5 Liter EFI Mercs have an in line fuse under the cowling that could be blown, it's 20-30 amp if I recall correctly. If it's blown the starter won't turn over, the warning / arming beep that occurs when you first turn the ignition to "ON" won't sound, gauges won't work and the trim won't click or run,,,,nada. I can't recall which side it's on but if starter still engages when you turn the key it's not that fuse. It wouldn't have caused the trim to act on its own but would have popped the fuse once it began to overheat. If you've been out in rain or got wet I'd consider one of the two trim locations, bow or throttle handle, as the source and it may be as simple as them drying out. If that's not it then it's over my pay grade.

Had the same exact issue with my old tracker once upon a time.

Trailering down the road and noticed the motor raising up.

    Default thanks all

checked things out ,had power, relay switches were clicking butcouldnt hear the motor working so thanks bugman tried a little tap on the motor and it started working, but the pump sounds real weak. barely raises motor up and down and is herky jerky. so it looks like anew pump may be in the works. im not very smart when it comes to electrical but dont the relays send power to the motor,so there may still be a bad trim switch that made the motor raise up by itself?

Like Bugs said, ours worked for abit by tapping it, but you really need to replace the motor, look on e-bay, thats where I got ours. And yes I had a bad switch and the motor would run on its own
