Thread: It's been a while....

I haven't been out on the water in over a month and been out of touch with the fishing on Smithville .
I have been busy working and in my spare time , I'm getting ready for the upcoming bow season . I have a few nice tracts of land I'll be hunting this fall . I'm looking forward to my first season hunting in Missouri since moving from Tn. in Dec.
I hope my hunting luck is as good as my luck fishing . I have enjoyed my time on the water since moving here . I hope to get out a few more times before hunting season starts .

yeah, what smitty said. gonna be happy with our whitetails here. especially over your way. so get your food plots done cause sept 15 is a coming! and dont overlook some of our public lands, some are bowhunts only and the MDC puts a lot of work into food plots and habitat. its your land too and if you do the leg work its awsome hunting!

I never nock an arrow till late Oct or early Nov. I don't hunt till after a couple of good frosts. I like to give the crawly critters a chance to disappear first.

I also wait till October to start, the dang skeeters and ticks about drive you nuts when it is still warm out. By the first or second week of Oct they have usually had a few good frosts up north that take care of a lot of that. Crops sure look good this year so should be a good season; some of the better looking beans I've seen in a while.

I haven't missed a bowhunting opener in over 30 seasons , so I'll hunt Sept. 15th after work . It's not any hotter here than in Tn. ,so I'll survive the skeeters and the heat . I use a thermacell early in the season and it works great . I just love being in the woods , just like I enjoy my time on the water .
I usually focus on food sources early in the season and take does when I get the opportunity early in the season . I stay out of my primary spots until November so I don't educate the deer.
Right now I'm fortunate to have a good amount of private land to hunt . I found a few spots on Platte Falls CA I might hunt too . I'm just excited about hunting in the Midwest . I have got some pictures of some very nice bucks on my trailcam , if they just stick around after they shed their velvet and the bachelor groups break up, I might get lucky .

good luck on the hunting, use to do it all the time, now I just drive arround and look at everyone else that is hunting or gathering, I can sit on my porch and get a deer most any day, year round.

I enjoy fishing , but it doesn't match the adrenaline rush I get when a big buck walks into bow range .

I hear ya on that, waitin while a big one one comes in is as nerveracking as it gets. What a rush. Below is my biggest buck to date, got him back in '07; may be a while before I find one better, if ever.

The only thing better than getting one yourself pictured below!

The cold weather and picking up his first deer mount this week has gotten me fired up for bow season also.
