never owning one and knowing nothing about them, what do you think of a 1989 ranger 396v 20 foot, 200 hp motor. 6000.00 asking, may go look monday and see what kind of shape it's in, guy said it looks good,and runs good, what should I look for and look out for. thank you

I traded my tracker procrappie earlier this spring for a Ranger. It took me some time to get the bugs worked out of a boat that had sit quite a bit but I'm super happy with my Ranger, it's a 363v with a 150 hp Merc. the only thing I'd trade it for would be a new one.

Beagle Man this boat wouldn't belong to a guide on Stockton would it? When I was looking he was getting ready to get rid of it but I found the one I traded for before his was ready and I pulled the trigger. Sounded like a great boat and good guy to deal with. Good luck, I promise you won't be sorry for upgrading.

if you read longliners post you know I really shouldnt up grade, my gawd I am dangerous enough with a tin can and putt putt motor, the more i type and look the more I think I must stay away from a big ride.

It's not as scary as you might think Beagle

Last summer, the owner of the boat you are considering and I both pulled out of Cape Fair Marina at exactly the same time and ran full throttle to point 12. He got there less than 2 minutes faster than me with my wimpy 115 Merc:D 'Course you have to consider that he had a total of three people in his boat, and I was by myself:D His will do about 60 mph wide open with just the driver and mine tops out at 42 to 45

Cruising at 30 to 40 mph the 200 should get decent fuel economy, but nothing like what you are used to with your current rig

I think you would really like it Beagle, longer, wider, and more stable. I think you will like the ride. A 200 ran at moderate speed will get good gas mileage. I have only filled mine up 3 times this year and I have gone alot. Now if you crack it wide open all the time it will drink the gas but at 30-40 it does very well. Take it for a test drive and see what you think. As with anything used look it over real well and make sure everything works. If you like it take it Brad and have him check the motor out and if all is good go for it!
