Default I gots da low down 6.5l diesel blues

Suburban took a big poopy again.
At least I got one year out of her before she quit.
Not bad, two years I had her and she's quit four times.

I've gone through the diagnostics and I'm not getting high pressure fuel to the cylinders. Could the be the big bad expensive pump but I found on the diesel board it might just be the alternator.

I'm going to replace that first and see if she shapes up.

A word to the wise. Duramax good. 6.5l diesel with the stanadyne injection system is crap.

Wish this bugger would run like old smokie.
How many miles are on that old Dodge?

hope it isn't the pump again!

back in the late 80's the company I worked for had me driving one of the Chevy trucks with the 350 that GM converted to diesel. I swear a MoPed could out run it on take off and probably on top end too!

Drop me a pm and let me know the details on the engine and I will check with my neighbor who is a heavy equipment diesel mechanic. Also know another really good mechanic if it has to go in the shop

Yep, I've got a 96 with 245k on it. Loud, obnoxious, rough riding, but tough and gets ~19-19.5 mpg if I keep my foot out of it. Not bad for a 3/4 ton 4x4 ext cab. Those 12 valvers are dependable trucks, and a guy can shade-tree on them.
Kit, are those not mechanical injectors on that motor? I don't know anything about the 6.5 in particular.

I second this comment! I would rather push my big Blue Oval than drive a Chevy. And I have done more than my fair share of pushing!

Wish you the best of luck with your motor.

    It's an electronic injector.

The problems appears to be electrical in nature. My volts are down around 11 on the gage before cranking. The tach doesn't show any movement when cranking.

I haven't pulled the intake manifold to check the fuel shut off solenoid. I'm trying to go through the basics before putting in the heavy work. I checked the ESO and it's getting 12V.

I can't argue with the chevy comment. The only chevy product I had the ran great was a GEO prism and that was over half Toyota. Had a Buick Century with a lot of problems.

I do like the size and carrying capacity of a Suburban though. Too bad Dodge doesn't have a Ramburban.

Thanks Fuzzy. I'm pulling the Alternator when I get a chance. I have six ball games this week between the 11 & 8 year olds.

    I'm hoping that's the problem.
