Ain't crappie, fun though
Just got back from St. Joseph, Michigan. Several members of The Q Joint met there. We cooked some fine BBQ two days for a group of Lake Michigan fishing captains and they took us fishing for salmon & lake trout. Heckuva deal, everyone was happy!
I came home with 3 two gallon ziplocs full of big fillets. Caught 4 king salmon, 2 coho salmon, 2 lake trout - 8lb. 12 oz was largest fish. One of those big fillets rubbed with some seafood seasoning and drizzled with honey then cooked in a smoker sure eats nice.
The lake was flat, no wind, unusual for Lake Michigan. And it was FOGGY. We used GPS all day. Fished out of a 17' Lund Mr. Pikie with 140 4 stroke Johnson. That Johnson was impressive, trolled all day at 2.4-2.6 mph and zipped us up to 50 mph when needed. The Lund has $12000 worth of RayMarine electronics on it, graph, GPS. Marine radio. Sirius XM radio with 1000 watt amp & good speakers. We turned on the tunes and trolled big spoons, caught fish.
Some pics -
The Lund. Nice boat for big water.

Capt. Mark Crawford at the wheel, my buddy from San Jose, CA, Paul Brun, on the right watching the lines for action. We had 9 rods out at various depths.

Assortment of king & coho salmon, lake trout.

My two best fish. Top is a coho, 8 lb., 12 oz. Bottom is a lake trout, 6 lb., 4 oz.

It was FOGGY! GPS served us well. Can you see the other boat about 75 yards away?

Some of what we fed them (and us). This is a 10 lb. dry aged prime rib roast smoked to perfection, med. rare. It's resting before slicing.

My plate-O-grub. Slice of smoked prime rib, couple baby back ribs, BBQ beans, grilled asparagus, some salad - GOOD EATS MAYNARD!!!
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.
