Default boat inspection by the coast guard

got the boat inspected the other day. and I did not pass, my fire extinguisher was not mounted, it was readly accessable but not mounted, so I got a no check, and I didn't have a marine radio. so got a no checked on it. have anyone been checked by the water patrol or coast guard and failed because of a radio. I got the fire extingusher mounted. ( now it's hard to get out) but never heard of having to have a radio. everything else passed, (yes I eaven had a cushion).

Default My uncle used to be a coast guard

inspector, and he was amazed that I passed his check, nothing was said about a radio or my fire ext. being mounted, but guess there rules have changed, I know once he inspected it and put a sticker on the boat, no one ever bothered me anymore......

Didn't see anything in the book about needing a radio, guess I better get one just to be safe.

Never heard about a marine radio and I have been checked several times on Table Rock but it's been a long time since I was out on the Rock.

I would question the marine radio. I would say it's necessary on the ocean or the great lakes ,but not in small inland waters.

I got mine checked about a month ago on Truman by MO water patrol. He gave me a sticker to put on the boat for passing it. He did check that the fire ext. was mounted. Never said any thing about a radio though. He did check my life jackets and throwable out real good. He liked that I had a whistle even though I had a horn. Nice guy and explained a few things to me that I did not know about.

    DITTO.
Got checked by the warden in Angel last Tue morning. Checked licenses and fish. Good thing we had em seperated. He asked how many we each had caught and I told him I wasn't sure because I wasn't close to my limit just yet. (I only had 11 beads pulled down on the counter) I told him the ones in the right side were mine and he could count them if he liked. He said he didn't need to....they looked fine. He was a real nice guy. Very cordial and professional.

The radio is a first for me also Beagle. I happen to have a portable marine radio with a holder mounted in my boat but dont always take it with me. I like it for the weather alerts.

Bob that would have been Andy B. We ran into him
Tuesday also. Great guy. I may throw in my cheap weather radio. Would be handy to check for bad weather coming in. Will try to find it before camp.

I have been checked twice by the coast guard and nothing has ever been said about a marine radio. One inspector did say it would be nice if I had one. The fire extinguisher does have to be mounted.
