Cooking Gar

I read somewhere that you can make a rough basket out of chicken wire and hang a trash fish (gar) above the water in a good spot and attract fish with it. The flies find the fish, lay eggs, and then the maggots drop into the water and the food chain begins. Never tried it so I don't know if it will work.

I'm sold on the power pro, I have seen Bob use it and I'm sure, if, the bridge is still out, and Bob just happens to have to go through Clinton, on the way to Bucksaw, only blocks away from Everharts as he passes through and he "may" need to stop there anyway, he might just grab me a spool of the stuff he uses:D
But I don't think the bridge is still out, so maybe, someone else coming to camp could grab me some, I'll give you cash on delivery :)

My friend eats gar he swears by it he said there is a certain section of meat he eats and thats it. He described it as back straps that go down the top of the fish. If it tastes like back straps from a deer sign me up. O and he says use nice set of tin snips works best:confused:

I also saw a link to a video on youtube about how to remove a Gar's tenderloin.

I'm not going out of my way to catch one, eventhough it was a fun to catch them on my ultralight. It does look like a bit of work. And your right there are enough crappie to catch than to worry about gar. At least I hope there will be.
