Need a little help with fish i.d.

looked on line but couldn't tell from the pics-got the book fishes of mo. by plifger(?),but its in storage.

How to tell difference between a mooneye and goldeye?Have caught 4 in the last 10 years in either the platte, little platte and mo. river-all were over 12 inches and had a mouth full of teeth:D,sharp little suckers!

The easiest way is to look at the ventral keel. It's a sharp edge between the pelvic fin and the tail. While both the mooneye and the goldeye have a fleshy keel on their belly, its position on each fish is different. On the mooneye, the ventral keel does not extend in front of its pelvic fins; on the goldeye, it does.
