Thanks for the Welcome! I discovered Crappie fishing this year after guiding for walleye, Bass and northern pike for thirty years on the Upper Mississippi river in Wisconsin. I have never been this excited in all my fishing years. This Sport Rocks. I bought a crappie boat (War Eagle Predator) this spring. One day not long after I came home and there was a tall package leaning against my door. Rats! I thought The wife has ordered new curtain rods! Looks like I may lose some time on the water. To my delight the long boxes contained not curtain rods but a present. War Eagle Had sent me Three brand new B&M graphite crappie poles and spider rigs. Well I tell you this was a life changing happing. I took this gear and boat and headed for truman lake in Mo. What a jewel. I hope to return there this coming spring. The people down there were some of the nicest peole I ever met. For that matter most of the crappie fishermen I have had the honor of meeting far surpass "Bass" or Walleye anglers for courtesy and kindness. I hope to learn more about this fine sport from this wonderful resource at crappie.com. Question? Does anyone know when the best time in the spring is to go to Truman? Best Place to stay? Thanks again for a great site.
Bucksaw Marina has a lodge/hotel right on the water (close to it anyway) and a guide by the name of Richard Bolling (don't know if I spelled his last name correctly) who is supposed to be very good at putting folks on fish. In addition, the folks on CDC in Missouri can answer just about any question you have. Good luck, and Welcome!:)
Thanks Jack. I met that guide last year, He was booked but gave me some tips on what to use and the pattern. Like I said, Crappie people are the best.
glad you had a good experience. and hope you have many more. visit the mo. board and learn lots
Welcome badaxed I see you are coming during the spawn why not come back and join us at crappie camp?
Crappie camp will be just at the end of the spawn for most years. It has been a little crazy the last 3 years with all the rain and high waters. Mid April through the first of May is usually very good. But fish can be caught year round. Welcome to a great site with super people and info.
welcome to the site, lots of good people and info here,,like pole bender said if u can make it to the spring camp you just may have another life changing event,,,good food and a good time for sure,,hope to see u there
Hi All,
I am a friend and neighbor of Badaxed. He & I and Abby (his black lab) will be at Lake Truman this spring. I found and have enjoyed this site after badaxed got me into crappie fishing. I tcan say that is a challange on the upper Mississippi. Probably a challannge for me anywhere, but really looking forward to the trip and meeting other people on Lake Truman. I am 66, married, still working and will probably go out with my boots on. Live in Racine, Wi and have a cabin next door to badaxed in the De Soto, Wi area. I look forward to learng all I can from everyone here and plan on enjoying crappie fishing for a long time. Oh by the way, he is one heck of a fisherman....Shame on the crappie now that he is on a mission.
