    Default Smithville 10/26

Headed to the lake with my brother this morning. It was cool. Upper 40s, a slight breeze from the east, and clear skies.

Water temp was 60° and clear. Fished main lake brush piles. Most productive piles were in water between 12 and 18 ft with fish around 10 ft down.

Caught pretty good size fish today. Very few under 9 inches. Most were 10 inch and up to the largest which was 13 inch. Both me and my brother took home 15 each. Finally taught him how to clean fish. So I don't have to keep on doing his. It's another fresh fry this Sunday.

We both were fishing with one 1/8 ounce chartreuse jig heads. My lure was a Strike King shadpole either black and chartreuse or green and chartreuse. Brother only used a clear chartreuse with pepper flakes shadpole.

Caught mostly white crappie today. There were a few black. Getting back on the water after 8 years this year, I was very surprised on how much thicker the crappie have gotten at Smithville. Also was surprised that I was catching keeper black crappie on the lake. The fish dept management must have done something with the lake because the crappie fishing, in my opinion, has improved with the quality of fish that I've been catching.

Awesome. Bet it felt good to be back on the water after 8 yrs. I think lakes go through cycles. Sounds like a very enjoyable time. Thanks for sharing

GJ Alex. Fish are hungry right about now. And I'm pleasantly surprised by the sizes lately, too. But there's still a sh'load of dinks out there, believe me!! Just not so many lately, for some reason??
