Spoons????

I only ever use them in the coldest part of the winter, fishing in big schools of shad.

If I use a spoon it's Fle Fly 1/2 oz. You can bend them and get a slower fall/flutter. I've used Binks as well, a lot of people have good luck with them but I haven't for some reason.

Some days they'd rather have a soft plastic in that same situation, so I'll either use a drop shot or 1/8 oz jig with a zoom tiny fluke. Small jigging raps can work as well, I haven't had a lot of luck with the bigger ones.

In the winter I've found just jiggling or holding the spoon dead still well get more bites than ripping it constantly.

We have tried the Binks spoons up there a good bit and just haven’t ever dialed it in with them. Hard to stick with them when we can get them to bite jigs or minnows. Any tips or tricks, time of year, etc?

I pretty much use them year round. I use the smallest spoon for the depth of water. let it go all the way to the bottom, then reel up a crank or two, snap up 3-4 ft and let settle back down. sometimes I catch more on spoons than minnows, but I usually have a minnow hanging over the side of the boat. I do catch a lot of bass and walleye also on the spoon and a occasional flat head.

Baitmasters in Aldridge has the smaller bink's spoon. I've had days they work and lots of days they didn't. Like commented on it your near brush replace hook with a lite aberdeen. I have better luck with them on suspended fish just outside of the structure. But the occasional walleye is a welcome fillet.
