Crappie tournaments are just not as popular as bass tournaments. Go to Table Rock on any weekend and you will find numerous bass tournaments. Truman is the only lake with crappie tournaments on a regular basis. My brother fishes some FLW's and he might get a check if he finishes in the upper 20's or low 30's. There is just a lot more sponsor money following the bass guys. Most people see crappie as a recreational fish that is caught to eat, not to try and catch seven big ones. I haven't fished a bass tournament is years, but I love fishing the crappie tournaments. I appreciate all the ones who put them together like Mike Valentine, Ryan German, and others. It's amazing how good the competition is around here. If you can cash a check you know you've beat some very good crappie fishermen. As tournament anglers, we need to try and grow our sport if we want the payouts to grow. If crappie masters is too much for someone to fish, check out the Top Secret Series that Ryan German puts on. It is only $50 and almost of the big guns from CM fish these as well.
