I use the bait casting reals like jigging15 does. I find that if I get 2-3 rods hung up at a time I can just reach down and hit the thumb bar to release the tension on the rod. Make sure you have the freespool tightened so it won't backlash. This lets me lift the rod and pull the snag loose without breaking rods.
