Defiantly a rags to riches day for me at the LOZ. Launched at Coffman well before the butt crack of dawn and fished the 4mm and a Gravios creek, in for sure spawning coves but this is not a for sure kind of year. Caught a total of 1 crappie on a bed. Decided to slip cork some wells...notta. Spider rigged a major creek.....notta. It was 11 o'clock and I had one fish so I ate my Lunchable with the vanilla cookies and was gonna say screw it not my day. Then I was marking fish in 25 to 30 fow and remembered what MBO and STO41986 were saying about a crank bait bite. I tied on a flicker shad and trolled maybe 10 feet and whack. Threw it out again and whack. Tied up another and did the two pole stroll and absolutely unloaded on the crappie. Nothing big except one that went 14.5 inches, but a solid limit and plenty more for fun. My trolling motor ran out of juice and I left them biting. I fished about a 300 to 500 foot stretch in 25 to 30 fow and if shad showed up on the Garmin I knew a hit was coming. All females full of eggs except the one I caught on the bed which was spawned out.......strange spring for sure but I will take a crank bait bite, and good advice, anytime. Does this mean the night bite comes early this year??? hmmmmmmmmmm
