    Default Missouri River sunday

Spent the day fishing on the river. We caught around 20 small blue cats and 4 shovelnose sturgeon. 5 of the cats were eating size so we brought them home to eat. It was a nice day on the water. Saw a couple of eagles flying around and some ducks. No other fishermen but a couple of rigs waterfowling. We figured it was gonna be the last good day for a while. Plus we are moving so we will be busy for a while. We had my parents house remodeled and are moving into it. Not far just across a field.

I need to make a trip to the mouth of one of the rivers and try my hand at catching some of those sturgeon this winter. I've seen pictures of some dandies that have been caught. I hear they fight as hard or harder as any big blue cat too.

At least those guys bite. Well when you find them. Haven't found the big bunches of carp hanging on the bottom yet. Usually by now you can see them stacked like cord wood on the bottom with fish finder. I know there has been a die off in various places of those carp. We saw one in some back water of the Missouri River. They died when the river was up and most were laying out on the bank way above water level.

those big heads and silvers are still around plenty. last time out, I found a wall of them back behind a trail dike. fishfinder said it was only 15 ft deep while the rope of my net is 25 and the net sank until I ran out of rope. caught half dozen silvers and they all but ruined my net. good news is I have been finding schools of shad, too. a lot of babies.

Good news about the shad. We don't even see many in Gasconade or Osage. Found a few bait wads but it was baby carp. There was a big mass of the Asian Carp below Beouff Creek mouth. Down river and on north side behind dike. Above Dundee sandbar. The few times we were in Beouff Creek this year we didn't see any shad and that creek use to be filled with them. If you can get carp that size they would probably be good bait and live longer. Hope next year is better catching than this year.

ya, the fishing around here on the MO sucked this year. I couldn't find any bait on the river most of the year. had to travel to get bait. most of the time I just grabbed some lighter tackle and some sonney's and went looking for channel's. now that the water cooled off the fishing is picking up. we found where a nice school of smaller shad is wintering and a few holes with some nicer blues showing up.
