Little G, you are not missing anything. I wasted 18 years on Green Carp.....Stick with crappie, trust me.
Ok pstone . You know it would be hard to beat my love of crappie fishing but I love to catch those cat's after a rain, come on rain !
Green Carp = BASS LOL
LOL , Did not know that.... Never heard that before.I figured you was bow fishing or something, lol.
I did catch a grass carp that weighed over 20 pounds at Lake Claude Bennett using a ACORN for bait
Not even gonna ask DD....Not even gonna ask
We were cmaping there last year (wife and I) and I kept seeing them come up under this big ole Oak tree in about 2 FOW rolling around. I started noticeing that they were eating the acorns so I put ONLY a hook on my bass rod and threaded an acorn onto it. Tossed that sucker in one's way as it came through and BAMM, he ate it. It was fun for about 2 minutes, bout it, they don't pull at all really. Imagine hooking Wannabe on 15 lb test line and thats about the ammount of pull you got. LOL. Not much of nothing. Here's a couple pics

Been looking at the website for several months now. Just registered. Been fishing all of my life, but I am trying to really get into crappie fishing. I am new to trolling and long lining and have never seen either done in person. I live near the Ross Barnett Reservoir and have been tyrying to find the carppie the last 2 weeks. I am on vacation this week and wil be hittin the lake every day if possible.
Welcome crappiejim, you can find everything you ever wanted to know about crappie fishing here, and a few things you don't want to know as well.
Rez is my home lake as well. Course I'm about ready to disowe that sucker. Fish are HARD TO FIND this time of year. Thats OK, it'll be fall before you know it
How do CJim. Glad you joined up. Let us know how you do on your vacation.

I just moved back to Hattiesburg after living in St. Tammany Parish, LA. I have only fished salt water for the past 10 years.
I really miss speckled trout fishing and it seems to me that crappie is the closest thing to it around here so I'm trying to learn it. I live near the gravel pits on the Bouie River and have heard that there are a lot of crappie in these lakes.
So, I'm reading up and gonna try to learn to fish 10 minutes from my house!
Welcome Thad. Don't worry about being a salt water fisherman. We ain't gonna hold it against you. :)

'm trtying to learn how to catch some Trout and redfish. LOL Trade ya on HOW TO but can't promise ya alot coming form me LOL
Don't worry, I won't make you kneel and kiss my ring for being the Speck Catchinest SOB Ever.
:p
I'm boatless for now except for a Scanoe and trolling motor or I would say let's hit the marsh. I'm going to get up a charter trip as soon as the specks are done moving inside. We launch out of BSL.
Well, what do ya know. That's the first time I ever seen somebody around here admit to being an SOB within the first 2 posts. Usually takes me at least 20 posts to get 'em to admit to it. LOL.

and trying them. See what we can get into cause I ain't caught a peck or Redfish yet
I'm from grenada mississippi. As a child i didn't have the chance to go fishing so i kinda got started late, around the age of 16. So here it is nearly 14 years later and because of changes in my life regarding getting married, have a baby, and changing shifts at work I really didn't have the time to get on the banks at the spillway. Recently I just got started back and I have really been enjoying it. At first I was all about catfish. Every now and then I got the occasionally crappie or bass, but i was always focusing on catfish. But now I'm starting to focus my attention on those "slabs". So any help and information from any member will be greatly appreaciated. Has anyone here had any luck with catching crappie at the spillway at the grenada lake. Again thanks for any help that you may have for me.
Sorry, the Grenada quota for Crappie.com is full up, guess you're gonna have to post on one of theme trashy Bass boards. :)
Welcome from Grenada. Didn't fish the spillway much this past year, but did in the Old River Run. If I can help, just holler........I did mention my rates are $20 per holler right? :)

Never tried the spilway cause there are always tooooo many there for me. By the way what ever you do if you take any information from WB do just the opposite and you will be sure to catch plenty of crappie.. he is ,without a doubt, the no crappie catchin est person on C.c....lol

History: long time (couple of months) lurker here, just decided to sign up. Haven't fished much since college--raised in the country, settled in the city. Married 16 years to a certified city girl; 3 wonderful kids (I do not deserve what the Lord has provided me).
I am making small adjustments in my priorities to make sure my kids know how to hunt and fish. I have been called a workaholic in recent years where I became a partner in a mid-sized General Contracting company based in Memphis. Recently, something clicked that tells me I need to change.
Last year my son and I joined a duck club and he is now "hooked on quack"; purchased a small fishing boat in recent weeks and hope to get the baby girl addicted to fishing. Wish me luck.

Welcome aboard Dandy. Just so you know, I'm in charge here and DD is a gewber.
This concludes your orientation.

He's been a LURKER so he already knows who the gewbers are, ya gewber
I see you're a quick study dandy, but stay on your toes.;) Welcome aboard.
welcome Dandy! But let me tell you be aware of that other Don guy and be very weary of this gewber they call Wannabe
Hi all! I just bought my first real fishing boat after craving one for about 12 years! 1987 16' Pro Tracker with a 94 Johnson 48 Special! Wife and I bought a travel trailer back in August, started camping at Enid and wondered why we didn't buy one a decade ago! We did a lot of bank fishing for bream and catfish, and I fished the spillway quite a bit without much luck, and all this just gave me a deeper desire for a boat! I couldn't stand it! Plus after years spent tagging along with someone else, waiting for an invite, and fishing in a few "work folk" crappie tournaments at Sardis, I ran across this sweet boat almost in my own backyard! It had to be fate! :) Plus, we own 16 acres of land on Greers Ferry lake in Ark, where we hope to retire, and I just had to have a fishing boat because I want to learn to catch me some Walleye! But right now, I want to learn to catch me some crappie! I've really enjoyed reading through all the threads here! Where's the best place on this site to see some pics of possible crappie rigs I can fabricate for my boat?
Well Sly, can't help much with the rigging, but glad you got you a fishing boat. Only recently got mine, a ten year old, but new to me Bass Tracker 16 pro, and I'm loving it. Been eating a lot of very fresh crappi lately. Good luck and enjoy your time fishing.;)
Thanks! Are you by chance a pilot?
How do Sly. Take a look at the stickies on the MS other topic board about the fruit jars. That's a working class trail for ya with most all the regulars here on the MS board. As far as rigging.....well, take a look on the Main board and do a search for "holders". Lots of ideas, but honestly, the way to go is store boughts. Others will work fine, but they're basically not that cheap to build and pretty much a compromise. I'd recommend going with one of the major brands - like Driftmasters or take a look at the Hi-Teks which are dang good too. Callshy - Scott Nichols posts a good bit and you won't find somebody that gives better service or more willing to tweak his offerings to your likings.

Thanks guys! Preciate all the info. I will definitely check out those other threads. I am looking forward to catching some crappie now! :D
Welcome aboard Sly....we are glad to have you with us....just make yourself at home.
I'm a controller at ZME. 23 years. I've probably talked to you at some point.
welcome in Sly, but there are a couple of folks you better watch out for if you ain't already figured that out
