    Default Lake Sardis this weekend

My dad's family does an annual get together at the state park and we plan to do some fishing this coming weekend and I am not familiar at all with the lake. Where would be the best bet to do some bank fishing from? I appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

    Tater -

If you're bank fishing, you might want to try below the spillway which feeds the lower lake. There are always folks down there and they manage to catch and snag a lot of fish. As for bank fishing, if your daring enough to risk the mud, you can walk/hike down into the back of one of the creeks where the crappie are moving in to spawn. A lot of folks actually ride ATV's to these shallow water areas this time of year and jig for spawning crappie. You can access areas that a boat cannot.

Let us know how you do.

Well, we did pretty good at Sardis, between five of us, we kept around 100 over three days, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday with Thursday being the most productive and Saturday the least productive. There were a lot of people out and most of them seemed to be doing very well, except Saturday. Minnows out caught the jigs probably two to one. I can't wait to back next spring.

Congratulations, tater sounds like you had a blast. Were the fish up shallow or still in the channels?

Glad to hear that you had successful trip. My wife and I fished Sardis on Saturday morning in spite of the strong wind and caught all our fish on jigs (females busting with eggs staged in 4 FOW with one 13" male mixed in with them...smart fella ). We kept 11 big fish and red/chartreuse was the ticket for us. They were hammering it as soon as we dropped it in the brushpiles. People fishing around us with minnows were not catching anything. I talked with two other boats that had nice catches of crappie and they caught all of their's on jigs also. I always take both...never can tell what they're gonna like day to day.
