Thread: With all the interest in crankbaits.....

Whens somebody on here gonna give a steb by step of the setup and routine? Like weight or not, what size baits, will it work without planer boards, speed...etc.

Id like to know

on yahoo search and found several things on it. I know whats gonna happen what I try it, all I'll catch is Snags.LOL I did win an auction for 7 bandit 200 series the other day so I'll have something to start with. They're about 5 bucks each at BP and I got 7 for 20 bucks total

3) Chunk it over the side

4) Move in the direction of the pointy end on your boat

5) Reel in the fish

I'm no expert but my humble opinion on the planers is that there are days that they will help a lot and days you don't need them. For example, if you are trolling with your outboard and it's a still day the planers are more useful because they get the baits away from the boat/motor noise. On a windy day or trolling with the electric motor you can get by without them, I don't think Kent Driscoll uses them and he's a guide.

Having said that, I don't think planers ever really hurt you, they just limit the number of lines you can have out by a couple and add an extra step by clipping them on and off each time you hook up.

Yep, on the planer boards - I've got pretty lazy about using them.

If I can catch enough for supper without using them, I don't break them
out much anymore. They catch fish for sure, but it's more work, and the older
I get, the more grumpy I get about other boats getting too close to them -
and the more thin-skinned I get about all the crazy looks you still get
from people while using boards :p

bigger, we caught tons of fish last year at sardis, enid, grenada and ferguson. caught over 140 one day at sardis, but only had 24 keepers, but it was fun. i dont even own a planer board, nor do i know how to use one, nor do i even want one, lol. i think its extra work, but im sure its helpful sometimes. generally, we use 2 oz. weights on the front rods only. i cant wait til its that time again.

What's a planer board? If it's a lot of trouble to explain, I'll be fine with a link to a picture of a planer board. It has something to do with crankbaits...right?

Am I gonna need to get me one of these things before summer? I mean, when I met up with all you guys and ya'll are catching fish and I ain't, I don't want to be able to blame it on me not having a planer board. AND...

I don't want to be the only kid on the block without a planer board!
