My fishing buddy didn't want to get up in the cold air of dawn so we decided to wait until mid-morning to head to the lake. When we got there around 10:30am we saw the lower parking lot full of trailers. But when we got to the runout we saw only 4 boats. There may have been a bass tournament on the lake as we saw numerous boats on the lake fishing the cypress trees.

Either that or everyone else was in Mud Lake. Anyway after 30 minutes we had 6 14" slabs in the boat and had released another 6 in the next 30 minutes. We are thinking we had them figured out pretty good.

Then came the rains...
Then came the lightning...

We gave it the ole college-try and soaked to the bone and cold we threw ever trick in the book at them, but to no avail. We only caught 5 more fish the entire day and we even tried Mud Lake. The water in Mud Lake was very clear. Too clear in my opinion. I walked over the ridge at the end of the runout to see how high the water was and it appeared to be about 2 - 2.5 feet below the top of the levee.

Even after the rain stopped around 4:30 we couldn't coax a swallow and finally gave up at 6:00pm. Back at the boat launch there were only 2 trailers left and one was mine so I guess everyone else had similar experiences. It was a full day and we had a good time, but it was good to get in some dry clothes and finally get warm again just in time for Louisville vs North Carolina...
