That was the answer to this question dutchman asked.
What I would like to know is how does everyone know that the biologists are doing or even getting to do their job ? How do y'all know that bureaucrats aren't making the final decisions?
Wasnt talking about the recent carp meeting, but about the other meetings pertaining to crappie regulations.I remember about 6yrs ago i went to one and everyone complaining about the crappie population.I hadnt fished all year cause we bought a new house and had been busy.Next sat after the meeting i went cranking for the first time that year and had a limit in a couple hours.I really dont know why everyone has to complain when things arnt going there way[emoji6]Sent from my SM-S907VL using Tapatalk
Will single pole fishing be outlawed during "trolling season" ?
One of the problems we all have with the State/Federal systems is their focus on "political correctness".
Our State and federal Wildlife Bureaus have changed their focus. They have been assigned the tasks of managing Parks and Playgrounds and many other duties not even related to Hunting & Fishing. Game wardens have had to become "Marine Police", checking the cooler or live well has become secondary to writing a "throw-able seat cushion not tied to a rope" or an out of date fire extinguisher violation or chasing down drunks. That's the Coast Guard's job.
Ever notice that there's no swing sets at all our schools anymore? Most schools don't even allow the kids to go outside during recess!
Managing a playground is not a biologist's or game warden's job, yet they have been told to do it.
The SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE!
Seems fair to me that single poling should be outlawed when the fish are shallow in the wood and bushes IF trolling has a season imposed on it. Lots of big females are taken by single polers when they move to the bank to spawn.
Maybe they should just outlaw the females that are full of eggs. Keep the males during those times when the spring harvest contains the biggest females.
In reality, I doubt they ever limit a technique during any part of the season.

I don't spider rig. They need to outlaw that. I also don't use trot lines. They should outlaw that. Don't like casting for them. Ban that. I never use minnows. Outlaw their use. I pull cranks. Leave that alone. I Like tightlining jigs. Let that continue. I can't afford a guide. Put an end to guiding. If you don't fish the way I like you are doing it wrong and should be forced to quit.
You get the idea??

B.A.S.S. started putting referees in the boats so the fish could be returned to the water immediately. Studies showed
that when a male bass was taken off the bed he was guarding for 5 minutes, 50 percent of the eggs or fry would be
lost. I like the way things are being handled. We are having good years, bad years, with some mediocre years in between.
It's way better than a lake full of little bug eyed fish with a trophy every year or two.
OR, We could just outlaw crappie fishing, period....Then we would not have all this crap to talk about...No man should fault another for abiding by the law, and using whatever legal method he likes...Go fishing.keep what you need...release the rest...Let MDWFP do their job..

Nothing wrong with having a analytical discussion about this . Some would agree that the best interest of the big 4 , may take a back seat to what's best for the "economy " around the lakes. What exactly is their job ? When was the last time your fish were checked ? I've been fishing these lakes for 30 years and only been checked a few times . Have I just fell thru the cracks ? Do you guys get checked much ? Do these world class lakes not generate enough income to provide protection?
I've been checked 5 times this year.two on Sardis..two on Enid...during the week .fifth time was on Saturday at Sardis...Each time, I thank them for doing their job.
You must look suspicious to them .
I've caught some of the best stringers I have caught in several years this year...I don't know what all the fuss is about....if it's. Not broke..don't fix it!!!!! I've never seen such a bunch of whinny people..Just go fishing, and enjoy the day...
Now . Now . No need for name calling. Slab likes us to keep it friendly. I think the fact this topic sets off so many nerves in good folks proofs there is a problem .
Plan to be on the water Monday catching short fish.
Is it just short fish, or just some with fuses that run on short of patience??
Or is it a few that are just short on gadgets, tackle, or fish finders??
Or is it some that are short on knowledge, or time??
Or is it due to some that are short on morals, ethics, and just want to sustain their own stature on social media??
Regardless, time in the outdoors with friends and family is nothing short of fantastic!
Now, shut up and let's fish...

Amen to that John......
By the way we quit at 11, boat didn't come off the trailer till 715 or so.
Headed to Grenada in the morning to harass some more shorts!:biggrin
Come on down, Jamie...We will be glad to have you...
I've got a solution to the carp issue. Paint a portrait of my mother in law on the dam gates. Won't a fish, animal, or wilder beast come close to it. As far as shorts, I'm glad I'm catching them. That's future fish frys. I'll keep 8 or 9 a trip. Sometimes I won't keep any. But as long as I'm catching, I'm happy. I don't keep anything out of my home lake Butla. I like catching them, let them go so I can catch them again later on. It would really worry me if I didn't catch anything. That would mean either the population is WAY down or I'm just that bad of a fisherman. I'm take all the dinks you can throw my way and be happy about it.

If the objective is to increase the percentage/overall number of fish over 12 inches without causing a fuss....
I would allow anglers to keep whatever size fish they want. To some extent. I’d also do away with personal limits and make a boat limit. For example
10 fish under 12 inches and 10 fish over 12 inches per boat. Doesn’t matter how many people or how few people. One boat cannot take more than 10 fish per day over 12 inches and no more than 10 fish under 12 inches. The maximum amount of crappie per boat is 20 fish.
I honestly think this would tick some folks off but I do believe it would accomplish the objectives
Short fish kept just takes away from over 12" fish the following year. If torn gill fish are kept legally , I promise you there will be a lot more torn gill fish show up.
[QUOTE=BigRiverMarine;3681744]Yup!!! The over 11” thing did more harm than good the few years they tried it at Sardis.
Yea but in that case you were only allowed to take 3 plus yr old fish. And you were allowed to take 40 of them per boat. In my scenario it would spread out the age class that’s being kept. Not to mention 4 times the fish over 12 inches would have a chance every yr because only 10 are kept per boat.
I don’t think you understand there objective. It’s to maintain trophy status. 12 to 14 inch fish are not what they consider trophy I wouldn’t think. With the rule that’s set now we are taking fish out as soon as they reach that length. So what there trying to do is figure something out to increase the amount of bigger fish. I understand not as many fish will reach 12 inches if you take them out before they get there but what about the 13 inch fish that was released because the angler already had 10 fish over 12 in his boat?
Pretty sure at Washington u could keep x amount of fish but you were allowed to have x amount under. Totally different if your limited to the number of large fish. This allows culling
