My 1st trip to Eagle Lake was awesome and will not be the last. I hope to make it a yearly trip from now on. Got an invite from a coaching friend to stay at his brothers cabin and the hospitality was exceptional. We sat up til 11 watching Jerimiah Johnson and telling stories. I met up this morning with a buddy I played JUCO football with. Went out to float row along with 74 other boats(yes I took time to get an actual count). We only caught 11 but my gosh they are all big solid fish. I have never double jig rigged until today( bc that is what everybody else was doing) and did not get the 1st bite on a double rig. I bite them things off and but on single jigs(some tipped with minnow and some with just crappie nibbles) and went to catching fish. We could have done better but I was satisfied with it being my 1st trip and learning on the fly.
Fished close to at least 4 guides and the were doing a good job putting fish in the boat with those 16’ rods and big rigs that could handle the wind we had early.
Funny note: it was so many boats(several with women) we were trying to be discreet taking a leak so I had a small bucket we could pee by getting low in the boat and not flash everybody. I got down on my knees started releiving myself and a dadburn cramp caught me in my hamstring. I hit the floor hollaring trying everything I could trying to get my leg to straighted back out ...my Lord it brought back all those memories of 2 a days and cramping up after football games. He laughed at me and after I got the pain worked out I laughed about it to. Told him I didn’t care who was around if I had to pee again Folks would either have to get mad at me for peeing in front of them or mad at me for cranking up and maneuvering through the minefield of boats to get away and p
