Some don't know, some don't care.
I try to be courteous,100 yds or less I'm getting out of it before my wake can get to you, idle speed. I like to stay as far out as possible from fishermen then cut in when I reach a destination. I operate with the mentality that I am responsible for the wake of my rig. I surely don't want to cause injury to someone but I also don't want to wind up in court and ruled liable for something so easily avoided. I honestly believe that some just flat out don't pay attention to where they are going

I'm sure laws vary but KY law says your are always responsible for your wake and therefore liable for any damage it might cause.
Truth is I never have to worry about people getting too close to me because I am always fishing where there aren't any fish.
I hate when ski boats do their thing on a narrow part of the lake where you are fishing. Then you leave and there's a wide open area they should have been in because they would have had a lot more room.
